In Response To: Single blade paddles (Frank)

: Does anyone else out there us single blades? I am looking for more
: information on the use and technique for the single blade. If you can give
: me any information that would be a great help.

Frank, Having been a canoeist for many years, I find I like to use a short straight shaft canoe paddle on a calm day or sometimes when fishing from my Skerray. It's easy to lay it across the cockpit when casting. Paddling with the skeg down, I can get 10 or more strokes before switching sides, far more than in my solo canoe. I find the boat moves along nicely with the single blade, and it's not as hard work as the kayak paddle. Probably wouldn't work as well with a skinny boat that needs more bracing. MT
