Re: And also the sculling brace

I tried to figure out how to do a sculling brace to get a few breaths of air, and failed miserably. I believe that's when the footbrace broke. I had jammed my foot underneath it with quite some force, evidenced by the mark and bruise. I'm kind of glad the brace broke when it did... It would sure be convenient to know how to do that, then the roll wouldnt be so critical to hit on the first attempt.
: Don,
: Just a thought: Use of a paddle float is a mixed blessing for the learner. On
: the one hand it allows integration of the sequence of steps, "puts it
: all together", and gives the learner a flush of success and
: encouragement. On the down side it can get the user into a habit of
: treating the loom as if it were a chin-up bar. As the float is deflated,
: the learner, who is used to the luxury of pulling down on the loom (which
: is supported by the float) throughout the sweep, will increasingly dive
: the paddle. The diving paddle guarantees success in the "sea to
: sea" roll (start in the sea -end in the sea). I know. I have been an
: expert in this technique. Seidman's book (Is it called Fundamentals of Sea
: Kayaking?)has an excellent discussion of the causes of and remedies for
: the diving paddle. You will get this mastered.: Carl
