: Time to get a rack for my '98 Accord. I would like feedback on the Thule and
: Yakima racks regarding strength, minimizing damage to the car, and wind
: noise. I have a Pygmy Coho and was thinking about using the foam crossbar
: pads on these racks as my travel time to the water is pretty short - one
: to two miles. The kayak saddles or rollers seem like expensive overkill.
: Anyone had a positive or negative experience? Thank you.Hello Bruce: Since I have both makes, I have opinions on both. The biggest difference between the two is how they hold their accessories. For you, it may not even be an issue, but I travel far and wide with sea kayaks, whitewater kayaks and solo canoes, tho fortunately not all at the same time. The square bars on the Thule are far preferable in holding saddles, and other accessories into position and not rotating over if the bolt is not gorilla tight. The downside is that they do not comform well to a roof provile that has some curvature. This is where the Yakima proves to be superior. The round bars allow you to position the accessories parallel with the road. I have a 94 Dodge Minivan,so this is not an issue for me. Regarding fit, both companies offer mounts for every vehicle under the sun. For your situation, buy what fits best, offers the greatest range of flexibility and whatever is the cheapest.
