: Hello Jim!
: This is also
: important to me, as I am not sure how hard it is on a fiberglass hull to
: carry it any great distance on edge, as a person can do with whitewater
: kayaks; at least I am concerned about the hull sagging in very hot weather
: when carried in the on-edge attitude. Maybe a more experienced owner out
: there can advise you on that matter.A fiberglass kayak will not sag on a hot day as a plastic one will. Fiberglass is a "thermal-set" in that it uses heat to set but is not affected by it after. Plastic boats are "thermal-plastic" in that they will reflow when heat is applied. This is not a problem normally but if the temperature is high and the hull is under stress the plastic will move to relieve the stress.
I too, carry my boats upright mainly because I believe the hull is better designed to take the stress than the deck is. I don't think carrying them on their side is a bad thing but I would have to make some new holders and until I get more boats that would require this I will stick with upright.
