combat roll practice in flat water

I have a form of practice which mimics some of the conditions of a combat roll which you can do on flat water. It is not a substitute for real practice in rough conditions but it is useful nonetheless.
Paddle full speed ahead and then lean to tip over. Start tipping over by setting up in roll position and using your forward blade to dig into the water. This will cause a very quick capsize and probably force your paddle out of position. Later you can just lean over with your paddle perpendicular in front of you. Again, the force of the water will push you around, mess with your paddle, force water up your nose and generally throw you off you standard setup and roll.
A fun exersize is to do this and then try to keep on paddling as fast as you can, attempting to lose as little time as possible. Repeat your rolls on both sides as you procede.
: I have a Skerray which I taught myself to roll this summer. I can do a screw
: roll repeatedly off both sides, but can't do it when really tired from
: paddling. I also doubt if I could do it when knocked over with no chance
: to set up above the surface. Is a c to c roll better in an emergency? I
: just discovered this board and it's great! MT
