Yes, a wider, higher volume boat will generally be harder to roll than a tippy, low volume boat. The same aspects that make a boat stable and hard to lean make a boat harder to roll. Once you have your roll down good and solid you will probably be able to roll just about anything.
: I've been using my CLC Yare (16', low volume, 18" waterline beam, round
: bottom, 27 lbs, can you spell TIPPY?) in roll practice so far but will
: soon be launching a CLC Chesapeake 17LT (17' x 24", 42 lbs). Though
: it didn't seem like it when I started building it, the 24" width
: seems REALLY wide to me as I near completion. The volume of the boat seems
: high as well (can't image what a standard Chesapeake must have for
: volume).: I tried to roll a Sealution fiberglass kayak (~ 17' x 24".~ 60 lbs, good
: fit) a couple weeks ago and it did not budge when I snapped it. It was
: like it was set in cement. I went back to my Yare and snap-ola.
: Humm.............?: So I'm wondering, what is the difference and will my new boat be tough to
: roll? More generally do width, weight, shape and volume effect
: "rollability"? What effect might other design aspects have?: Thanks for any and all comments,
: Craig
