In Response To: greenland paddle (LeeG)
The canted stroke should be with the top edge leaning forward. The more it is canted the greater the bite is and the more the blade wants to dive. To counteract the dive you can push down and across the deck with pushing hand. After a while your stroke will do this naturally without you thinking about it. This combination gives you a strong stroke. I find that when I use a paddle that is 3 3/4" I cant the blade slightly to get a good bite. When I paddle with a blade that is 3 1/4" wide I can play with the degree of cant more and vary the degree of bite. For casual paddling I like the narrow blade but for playing in surf or when I need more response from variuos paddle strokes I use the wider blade paddle. Once you get the feel of how to get the most of a canted stroke the greenlad paddle starts to click.
