HELLO THERE!!
Prijon boats rock! i have full confidence in their patented recipe for blow moulded thermoplast, definitely more superior to rotomoulding (no offense). So far it's the toughest plastic i've come across on a sea or touring kayak. Me and my girlfriend own prijons and do not regret anything. I own a Touryak and she owns a calabria..we're in the process of getting another prijon, either the barracuda or catalina.
they're perfect for rugged outdoor adventures. We've paddled through boulder infested lakes and rivers without any worries of scratching or even cracking the hull. We've packed our boats to the top with gear over a combined weight of 300 lbs and performed well. I even dropped my touryak a few times, still looks new. And if ever you get a deep scratch (although improbable), you can easily buy prijon's repair sticks for 4 bucks, stick it in a glue gun and smoothen the scratch out. Prijons are definitely the pickup trucks of the paddling world, very utilitarian. Personally I think they look fine, but first and foremost, i didn't get a kayak so i can admire their beauty...i got my kayak so it can take me somewhere beautiful.
the main reason why we chose prijon is to be worry free and enjoy the experience without having to worry about every little obstacle that might crack or scratch a fragile kayak...no wonder hardcore expeditions are done with plastic kayaks. especially if your survival is depending on a durable boat, the last thing you want is a brittle composite.
i guess it all depends on what you need a boat for..i have nothing against composites...i think they're great. composites sure are fast, but my touryak isn't too far away(did 14kph according to my gps on a calm day) hey i would get one or even two if i could justify it's purpose. maybe in the future, i'll buy one to hang on my wall and look at...because i agree with most of you, they sure are pretty to look at.
bottomline is that prijon kayaks do what they were intended to do, take you places further than most other kayaks would not dare to or think twice about. speed will only get you so far...durability will get you even further...just not as fast...what's the rush anyways? enjoy the scenery!
anyways i'm looking forward to getting our third prijon.
see you in the water!
