: playing that chop and yet something didn't work.That was Jonathan's first time out in such conditions. I am not sure how bombproof his roll is normally. He had just collided with another boat which caused the capsize. I believe he tried rolling a few times but it didn't take.
We have another paddler in our group who often uses a wing out in the rough stuff and does quite well, although he has had to be rescued as well.
My feeling is the wing can work well, but you have more options with a standard euro. A also GP works OK in these conditions, but the relatively weaker bracing either results in the paddler being more cautious or in more capsizes.
