Why I'm going to have to give up kayaking

Why I’m going to have to give up kayaking:
Because my garage is full of boats and my wife won’t let me keep any future additions to the fleet in the living room.
Because my next door neighbor thinks I should spend more time pulling dandelions and washing my car instead of going boating.
Because all of my shirts are getting too tight around the shoulders.
Because it’s taking too much time away from canoeing, skiing, snowshoeing, hiking, and cycling.
Because people keep telling me I should act my age.
Because my mother is worried about me.
Because my co-workers don’t ask me about my weekends any more – they just say, “It looks like you survived another one!”
Because I have all the waterways within an hour’s drive of home completely memorized.
Because I finally have all the gear I need for it.
Because a doctor has never told me I need to lose some weight and get more exercise.
Because I feel socially incompetent when someone tries to talk to me about televised sports that I don’t have time to watch because I’m boating.
Because the people I meet who are into kayaking are just too lively and interesting to be tolerated.
I’m really just a social kayaker. I can quit any time I want to. I’m not hurting anybody but myself. It’s not my fault; it’s because of my upbringing. All of my friends kayak and it doesn’t seem to hurt them. I never kayak on the job, or while I’m driving. It’s a free country, isn’t it? Can’t a guy have a few kayaks now and then if he wants to?
