Sorry Davis. Why are you being so defeatist? Negative attention is not good.
I almost died in a vehicle accident 3 weeks ago. I would hate to die so young--it means no more playing in all the tomorrows, but I'd much rather die paddling..than in a damn car...or worse yet, on the couch.
Not to say we should chase fate, or tempt death, but there is an element of risk in all of life. Manage the risks and live the life you choose.
If paddling makes your heart sing, keep paddling. If paddling doesn't make you happy, then fugeddaboutit. Regardless of the risk of death. I had a crappy summer; two funerals of people close to me, and a near-death experience, and too much work. I entered a 9-mile kayak race last week, and had a great 'Lake Wind Advisory day' and got thrashed. And I'm "centered" again. I can't tell you that kayaking must be your "fix". It is or it isn't. If it is, we're all fellow addicts who can help you with your healthy addiciton. If it isn't your fix, move on.
Give up kayaking only because you don't enjoy kayaking.
I wish you well in your future endeavors.
