Paddling in quartering seas

Hello,

I am relatively new to kayaking, having purchased a Perception Eclipse 17 after a great experience paddling off the Na Pali coast in Kauai a couple of years ago. Since then I have paddled occasionally on the Great lakes (I live in Michigan) and quite a bit on smaller inland lakes and rivers.

I would like to go out more on the Great Lakes but am afraid that my confidence level when exposed to quartering seas is quite low. I am not sure of the proper technique in this situation and would appreciate some pointers from the more experienced paddlers out there.
