Seems like your perspective of kayaking is based on taking trips. Fun stuff, do it all the time, but I like just plain day boating, too. Go find a nice tide rip somewhere, gather a few friends good with rescues and let 'er rip. Lots of fun, good exercise, no more camping, carting, lightning, packing, etc. You'll be back in bed by 830pm.
Should you find me at water temperature and the authoritah's unable to revive me, see to it that my family buries me appropriately. Kick out my rear bulkhead, lie me within dressed in my finest paddling suit. Fill my cockpit with pitch and kindling. Tow me out past the last breaker and when I've reached open water have the archer on the headland lob the last flaming arrow my way. Then, have a hell of a good party on the beach and may your best stories get even better as the night gets on.
