: First of all I need advise on the best technique to "go about" when
: sailing into the wind with a Klepper Basic with S4 sail set. I normally
: sail single handed and up to force 4.
: I have tried a small amount of rudder, a large amount of rudder, easing off
: to develop a bit of speed before I go about but nothing helps. The bow
: will not swing through the wind. I have to resort to a couple of paddle
: strokes to swing the bow. Any suggestions
: Secondly does anyone have experiance of using leeboards with aerofoil
: crossection on a Klepper. The Dutch flat bottomed sailing boats use
: leeboards with various aerofoil profiles. Will this work on a klepperYou may try and ask at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/sailing_canoes/ . Even though the group is called "canoes", there are Klepper sailors there too. Or at www.foldingkayaks.org Forum. 4 knots (if it's knots and not beaufort scale units) is a very light wind, I wouldn't expect good tacking from such a long boat as Klepper in light winds. All kayaks are too long in that respect, - they are kayaks, not sailboats. Yes, airfoiled leeboard will help a little bit, but don't expect any miracles. Unfortunately I don't know any commercial manufacturer but Mark Balogh, and he has *very* long waiting lists. Not bacause of too high demand - demand is steady, his items are costly but very high-qulity. Just management/materials/suppliers problems, - not unusual for a small company.
