: My friend did an epic trip to celebrate his 50th birthday.
: On day 2 of the trip he developed chest pains.....he continued the
: trip......thinking it was a lung infection.....: Got back to Vancouver pain intensified......double bypass needed....he had a
: heart attack.You get this way not by paddling but by living an unhealthy lifestyle before you start paddling. I started paddling at the age of 40 because an auto accident took away my ability to run competitively. I therefore lived a very healty lifestyle before paddling and CONTINUE to live a healthy lifestyle BECAUSE life has wayyyyyy to much to offer than to settle in front of a TV set wasting away watching other people live life. Sad to hear you chose to run from a wonderful way to explore this amazing place called Earth. You'll find in time that you'll miss it. That said, if the reward was so small, then I have to wonder what you were doing while out there. Attitude is everything and if you don't have what it takes to enjoy wherever you go then even the sofa and a bag of chips washed down with a luke warm beer ain't gonna make it better.
: Over the age of 50......no more paddling...
: Tired of risking hypothermia, capsize.....drowning.....tired of carting stuff
: around, packing boats.....camping in lightning storms....Taking risks? Ain't that a part of life. My bet is that you risk heart attack because you stopped paddling. A sedentary lifestyle is the first cause of heart attack. Regular exercise keeps a healthy body working properly well into the eighth decade of life. That said, being alive is risking pain and death, both of which are inevitable - so I ask, what the hell are you thinking?
: Sold my kayak, sold my gear.......
: Kayaking....danger......small reward for big risk.....
: Pffffffff.........if I want risk I can volunteer for Iraq at least someone
: will pay me for that......Guaranteed quick death=Iraq
: Over 50 = geriatric........
Surrender = geriatric thinking
: Life is precious......dont waste it .......
Oxymoronic statement of the year. I've been exposed to an aspect of life that I could never have experienced were it not for kayaks so your statement makes no sense to me. Your attitude is clearly either jaded or tired. I do hope you find a new way to get out and live.
