Hi Davis,
That is truly sad to hear. But just because someone is over 50 doesn't mean kayaking should be stoppped. It's like any sport/recreation, you may have to slow down but unless a major medical condition is in existence, stopping isn't needed.
The thing to remember is that your condition at 50 is linked with your lifestyle BEFORE you reach 50.
Did your friend have a pre-existing heart problem?
Did he have a recent medical? Which would have shown up any problems.As far as risk is concerned, you are far more likely to be killed while driving than kayaking, you don't need to go to Iraq.
But, if you want to stop kayaking, that's your choice.
Still, sad to hear.
