I was told that the new heel-hook rescue was invented by a 70 year old british woman who found she was lacking the strength for other methods. Even if you have strength, it is great to conserve it. I've only tried in flat water but find it is fast and comfortable and you are unlikely to get stuff in your PFD pockets hung up on deck and less likely to push the backband out of position under you.

: Woody,
: I used the new rescue recently, in serious clapotis and 50+ km winds. I
: didn't do a textbook version, but it got me back in the boat. IMHO, it's a
: good rescue technique for many women because it favours lower body
: strength.: Pamela
