: Scoop rescue is my fallback in very rough water where we can't get someone
: back in. Scoop, pick the right time to in the wave to aid in rolling up,
: then latch on for a tight raft while pumping. If too rough to pump then
: stay latched on and have the 3rd paddler tow. Even in a swamped boat it is
: much faster than towing a paddler through the water.Woody, thanks for the information.
In the scoop rescue does the kayaker in the water re-enter his kayak when it is on it's side? And then you pull him upright while he is also pulling up?
My kayak is narrow, a Nordkapp and his a wider Current Design Solstice, more stable but it was difficult for me to hold it steady/upright in the rough water while he tried to get up on the rear deck.
I think the only thing that might have worked for us was a stirrup-assisted rescue but we didn't have a stirrup and the conditions were very rough.
I don't think our third kayaker could have helped much and we didn't need three kayakers in the water.
We will have a difficult time finding practice conditions half as rough.
