: A blade like that would work well in the deep bush. Over here the bush gets
: so tangled that it's impossible to trek through in places so you have to
: find another way through. I'm talking bush with tough bark with sharp
: edges and thorns. I got caught up in bush like that a few years ago while
: hiking with the kids near the mountains. We had to do a lot of
: backtracking to find an easier route. I personally would have trudged
: through but the kids weren't quite dressed for the rough, they were in
: shorts. I could have used that blade then. I don't know how well it work
: on bears but it's my bet it wouldn't serve very well.: Robert N Pruden
I don't carry the khukuri for bears. Mine is indeed for bushwhacking through alders, getting firewood and/or setting up an emergency shelter. I keep a heavier one at camp for splitting fire wood. The khukuri comes in many difference sizes, width and depth configurations. Some are all arounders (10-12" blades, 1.5" deep), some choppers (12" plus and 2" plus deep), some (long thin blades 12" plus with 1-1.5" deep) are "fighters."
BTW, some Nepalese villages slay an ox on New Year's for celebratory consumption. I saw a video of such a celebration. One swing with a larger khukuri, decapitated a full size ox.
