: Yup. People don't stand a chance against them if they're determined to get
: you.I've encountered many black bears over the years tripping around in the northern Ontario wilderness and fortunately have never run across an agressive one although a few were not intimidated by my presence at all.
I used to think I could, outrun, outmanouver or outsmart a dangerous one until my daughter and I spooked a blackie in the Donnagana River surrounded on both sides by tag alder swamp. For those not familiar with tag alder,it's a very dense, low(max 10 feet) bush/shrub that mostly grows in swamps, quicksand and wet areas and is almost impossible to walk through, more like crawl through.I don't go into it unless it's absolutely unavoidable because it's such a pain.
Anyway, when this bear ran into the swamp and up the hill at full speed,I couldn't see him/her,just the foilage moving as it crashed through .
That bear could go through the tag alder much faster than I can run on dry pavement.I really think a very aggressive one would have you before you could do much of anything.
I still like seeing bears however.
Cheers
Bert
