Reentries

I wouldn't know about reentries, I haven't had to do one yet. Any time I have fallen out of the kayak I've had to stand up, get out of the river then get back in. Trying to climb back into a kayak on a fast flowing river with heavy surface ice above deep water is not my idea of the perfect place to try a reentry on the water. I just climbed on top of the ice, pulled the VJ out and went home. I doubt the ditch kit will affect a reentry if it is attached to the back of the pfd near the neck; it's out of the way to interfere with anything. If anything, a watertight ditch kit bag will provide needed floatation.
Only 10 feet of ice? Hmmm, it's gonna be like that here soon enough, outside temperatures are racing to -27 C with the windchill. Those temps will freeze up the river a lot faster. Monday will probably be my last day to paddle if I can work up the gumption to head out: that's dem cold you know.
