Thank you all for your sentiments and advice, I appreciate it.
Until lately I also was resistant to chiropractic; too many stories of quacks and questionable techniques floating around. But I decided to try this particular one because I personally know a bunch of people that were helped by him in the past few years. Then, on my initial visit I found he was a real docter and even specializes in sports injuries. All the techniques he uses make sense; ultra-sound for breaking up scar tissue, spine stretching and straightening massage, and this really cool feeling electric massage called interferometry (sp?), then I have to ice and exercise 3 times a day and find ways of imbibing flax seed oil and horse sized chondroitin pills.
Going to this chiropractic physician really is a second opinion. Last year I went to an Orthopedic Surgeon and he also diagnosed spondalolysthesis and he prescribed the same therapies I'm getting now. The only drawback is his policy of no drugs, meaning no pain killers and no steroid shots. Things the surgeon would happily provide.
I tend to over-do rigorous exercise and my body has been paying the price, but I'm confident I can change my technique and reduce my 12 mile paddles 2 or 3 times a week to 5 miles a week and so be able to continue this sport I love.
