Surfing S&G Night Heron

Well today I got the chance to take the S&G Night Heron out in some 3-5 foot waves. It was a lot of fun and it rode down the face of the waves nicely. It was very predictable while surfing and had comfortable stability. While paddleing out the fine and narrow bow didn't ride over the waves as good as other kayaks with more bow volume do. This wasn't a problem, just a little wetter. I caught one wave that was taking me into the beach and as I approached the beach the wave must have gotten steeper and the whole front end of the kayak became completely submerged from the bow to the cockpit as I finished rideing the wave onto the beach. I was a little surprised but maybe this is common with long narrow kayaks. I felt very comfortable paddleing the Night Heron in these conditions but next time I think I'll take the Artic Tern 14 out when I want to play in the surf.
