I've used these for our outrigger racing canoes and they work ok, but on occasion the impeller gets jammed by a particle of sand to where you have to disassemble the unit to clean it out. I would definitely use a backup means of bailing it I had one of these, although if it was working, it would reduce your "sweat factor" a bit. You also would have to find a way to fix it to the bottom of the hull. We've used a plastic yard drain grate turned upside down and glued to the hull to act as a bracket for the pump with small bungees to secure it to the grate. That also works ok if you don't mind having a yard drain glued to the bottom of your hull between your feet!
: Pity it does not have a higher pumping capacity (only 200gph - I understand
: the most common electric pump is the Rule 500gph model). The idea of the
: switch and battery campartment being integral seems like a good one. Such
: a system must be more fail safe. It also has the advantage that it can be
: used on different kayaks (or even to pump water in other applications
: altogether).: I was going to get one, but with someone as experienced as Brian being
: doubtful I'm having second thoughts.
