: I have followed this thread with only moderate interest as I seldom paddle at
: night and never in traffic areas. However, I fail to see how displaying a
: white 360 degree light would do any harm.It would most likely do no harm...but it isn't technically following the rules of the road.
Don't do it...follow the rules to a "T" if you're on saltchuck.
On Flathead, I seriously doubt Jerry is going to cite you for a 360º white light. There is no commercial traffic, save the Far West and KwaTaqNuk Princess, and I doubt their skippers know the Rules. Some of the motorheads go so fast and don't look that you couldn't shine a light quickly enough to avert disaster. Just don't sail without ugly numbers on your bow--that is a sure citation.
: Granted the kayak isn't at
: anchor but is traveling so slow it it would probably appear to be to a
: power vessel. Isn't the purpose of the light to make yourself visable to
: other vessels and thus avoid collision?Yes...but exhibited only before, and to avoid collision. Not a prophylactic light.
