The best spot for knife?

In my el-cheapo PFD knife was just dangling from the belt (there was some flimsy belt). Now that I got fancy Kokatat Outfit Tour (but no belt), I'm puzzled. The knife is Gerber River Shorty. Below *left* shoulder strap, in diagonal over the pocket (handle would be protruding a bit)? Vertically at the front lash tab? Or above this tab (this looks like the best spot). And what is the best way to use slots on the sheath of that Shorty? (the lower slot has opening near the tip, I don't trust it). I've searched topics on "knife" here, but couldn't find anything - sorry if this is so simple that not worth talking about :-)

PS: not to ignite Blade VS Hook discussion, but I carry only one knife for all my purposes including (very occasional) food cutting; can-opener is always there, of course.
