: It is difficult to over sweep a reverse stroke 
for me, it's the reverse - just abt all my rev strokes are like sweeps as it seems difficult to paddle backwards w/ the more vertical strokes like a forward stroke. consequently of course(like in my case), rear paddling is often more frustrating esp at speed, or conversely supplies more scope for practice.
some yaks have more of an entry bow than the exit at the stern and that tends to act just a little like a skeg, but it really depends on the yak. most of my yaks are fairly symmetrical and they yawbble as much backwards as forwards.
