it's usually not the trim. take the same yak(s) and paddle backward - exactly the same thing happens in reverse, hehe - it's good practice and exercise to do this as the yak spins around anyway - play and then let it spin back forwards.

it's caused by boat design characteristics but is remedied by stroke or yak reconfiguration.
