Unless you plan on selling about a million of your new style cart, getting a patent could be a losing proposition. Getting a patent requires alot of work, you would have to prove to the patent office that you have some unique idea that hasn't been done before. Then you need to come up with a huge pile of money to start manufacturing and marketing. If you got a patent it still wouldn't stop do-it yourself types from copying it anyway. If someone did copy your design and start selling it, you would have to hire lawyers to file lawsuits and injunctions and prove that they stole your design and on and on. Then someone sues you because your cart failed while their kid was using it to cart their sister accross a busy highway. The only people that win are the lawyers.
Forget dreams of riches. share your cart with your friends on the KBBB who will most likely improve it and tell you how they did it. The best you can hope for is the praise of your peers and satisfaction in a job well done.
