shoulder injury

hi.
have recently dislocated shoulders in a climbing injury, and now find it difficult if not impossible to scull for support on either side. mainly because i have become paranoid of damaging my shoulders further, and the idea of taking a swim in a gnarly rapid or race with a dislocated shoulder is not a good one.

i have always been an advocate of using the low brace instead of the high brace, however, i still find myself using a high recovery stroke and sometimes a dangerous one when over balanced unexpectedly. when practicing high braces, even with elbows tucked in and trying to maintain the 'box' i find my shoulders being tweeked.

any ideas, tips for preventing further shoulder injury... except giving up kayaking of course!! and any ideas for re-educating myself how to brace safely.

cheers all

simon
