A Better Blade

Randy, Thanks for your suggestions. I think I tend to underestimate how much of a hinderence her current paddle is. It's a heavy, low-end Aqua Bound that seems longer than it's 225 cm length. I've lent her my 215 Werner Kauai before, and it definitely helps a lot. If anything, she needs a paddle that's even shorter than that and one with a smaller blade face than the Kauai. I have also recommended that she go with a lighter lay-up, but money has been tight lately. Once she's using the proper blade, I think some of your other tips (and my own as well) might start having more of an impact on her performance.

Here's a general question: How short a paddle do you think a petite paddler in a narrow (22 inch beam) boat should go? (Assume more of a high-angle stroke.)

And is there anyone out there (especially a petite woman) with a favorite paddle they want to rave about?
