: Sing,
: I now understand where you are coming from.
: I wholeheartedly agree with you that greenland paddles shouldn't be omitted,
: especially on this forum! When I first started paddling a seakayak I
: thought that greenland paddles were more of a novelty than an option to
: the common "euro paddle". As I gained experience I became
: intrigued by the "stick" paddles and last summer built a couple
: (one for me, one for my wife) using Chuck Holst's plans. It took a few
: outings to get comfortable with the transition, but now I view the
: greenland stick as superior for most seakayaking. The versatility of a
: greenland paddle is amazing. My carbon fiber euro paddle now serves as
: just a backup. It's a shame that most novices don't even know about the
: existence of greenland paddles let alone their versatility.: Paddle on,
: NelsonWhen I am out in my day touring boat (SOF), I really do enjoy my GP more than anything else. But having played a lot in surf and ww this past year and a half, I have say that there are benefits to having a big honkin Euro blade (like the "Big Spoon" paddle I use for surf/ww). If I had to make big, fast power moves in say a rock garden, without having to extend way down deep as I would with a GP (sometimes not possible), I would definitely favor a Euro at this point. I can make much faster directional changes, e.g. a bow rudder/draw, with the Big Spoon than I can make with a GP. Since I don't play with my SOF in rocks, I don't see being out there with a Euro paddle much.
