: to set up above the surface.No offense intended but you should seriously consider taking some rolling lessons.
You really need to be able to roll in any conditions without being dependent on setting up above water before capsizing.
If you can't afford lessons then get a buddy to help you out and work on things like deliberately capsizing in all kinds of non-setup positions e.g. paddle held in one hand, paddle held behind back, paddle dropped in water parrallel to boat; or even give your paddle to your buddy, capsize, put hands above water on both sides of your boat, get buddy to give you your paddle back and then roll up.
A roll that doesn't work in an emergency is no use.
