Unfortunately, I think you are probably right about the corrosion. This company makes kayak accessories that corrode quickly. You would think they would understand the reality of corrosion in salt water. Other than that I suspect the stuff is strong enough. If a tow line breaks when a large force is applied, it is really OK by me. I would rather have the gear give way than have the force damage me.
