Hi Jim
Im in envy of your opportunity to try these boats in the flesh.
More comparo questions, How do you see the difference/similarities between the STORM and the Mariner II and Mariner Max. I'm still trying to bring together the capacious, fast, roughwaterphilic "ideal boat"(and it will probably have a rudder).
Thanks
Wayne: I talked with Matt Broze about the Mariner II and the Q700. He suggested I
: felt more secure in the Mariner because of the "banana" shape,
: river-dory sweep of the water line on the Mariners. In other words, in the
: very short period waves and chop on Lake Erie, more of the Mariner is in
: the water at any given time than the Q700. Some of that great secondary
: stability in the Q700 comes from all that volume pushed to the bow and
: stern. If I'm not mistaken, the Q700's waterline is almost as long as the
: Mariner II's overall length! So what happens is the short waves lift the
: bow and the stern a bit, unweighting the center of the 700, rendering the
: tippy feeling. When I've leaned the 700 over, accidentally on purpose, I
: really felt the secondary stability, just took awhile to get there. I feel
: it right away in the Mariner II. I guess it's vanilla or chocolate.: Jim
