I was at the QCC website - I looked at the cross section of the Q700 and it definately has rounded lines where other kayaks can often be found a more pronounced chine. Still, the roundish bottom looks "flatter" than my multichine which has a deepened keel - due to my own building adjustment [ahem, no no not error!!!]. At anyrate, after reading A lot of the reviews on paddle.net it seems like a lot of other people find it tender tho welcome it for the quickness born out of that design. Ive had people briefly touch my kayak in 6" of water who've kayaked before give me a look or "WHOA - my kayaks more stable than that!" Ive come to a bottom line about my tippy fleet one...
Its not going anywhere. I dont intend to contemplate another kayak for a while either. Ive rested it in my head that the crux of the matter isnt the kayak but the skills issue. A confident brace, both hi and lo and surefire roll are whats needed on my part. I might eventually want a more maneauverable kayak once I start getting into serious swells and so on, but for now, for me, picking a more stable boat would kust put a bandaid on the fact that I need to learn my skills.
I feel your pain [lo initial stability] firsthand I just see it as something transient due to my lack of skills. Face it, you cant get comfortable and confident in steep chop if you KNOW you dont have surefire recovery methods.
That "whoa im gonna flip - im gonna flip!!!" is all because I cant yet just trust my bracing skills - to say nothing of my total inability to roll for now.Just chatn'
