: Pete, I agree. The outer Island (stripper) has a more rounded hull shape than
: the Merganser (S&G hull). The only boat that I had any time in up to that
: point was a WS Alto which has a rounded hull. Maybe a rounded hull shape
: gives a more progressive(?) feeling as it leans over rather than a
: "you're here-then suddenly here" feeling. That varies. Some are very progressive, but I've been in others that had seemingly no secondary stability. There are also wide, flattened boat with rounded bottoms that feel very stable, but capsize very abruptly when their limit is reached.
: I chalk it up to my
: lack of experience in different boats. Is it just coincidence that when I
: get into other hard chine boats they feel twitchy?Probably. The Alto is a wide boat. If the hard chine designs you've sat in were narrower, it's natural that they would feel twitchy. Stability is relative to what you're used to.
