: to the words "21" beam, and 18' hull, I said, tippy boat.Hello All,
I'm not sure I believe that 21in means tippy. I'm no expert by any means. My experience was that: as a second season paddler (mostly flat water,Rookie) I was at a wooden kayak show and test paddled a Merganser (i don't know the beam)which I found very twitchy and unnerving. Then I test paddled Jay Babina's Outer Island which is 21in x 17'10'' and it was completely calm, stable not twitchy in the least. This happened a couple of years ago when I had very little paddling time in the saddle. For me 21in doesn't neccessarily equal tippy. I'm 6'2'',200lbs., 40L sport coat by the way. IMHO
