I don't think anybody's really that dogmatic about it. If you find a coach who says you absolutely may not use a GP, find another coach--they're out there.
I know a guy who's gone through 4* with a GP...you just need to show competence with a Euro, too. It's not that you must use a Euro to pass any ACA or BCU tests; what will fail you is saying you cannot competently handle a Euro, and you only want to use some other paddle.
It's not "BCU stuff", it's not "ACA stuff". It's just good paddling skills. Not that either the BCU or the ACA has a lock on teaching good paddling skills--but in many cases, you'll learn them faster through one of the organizations than you will ever learn by trial and error.
: Snip from Woody: Should one use a euro paddle to learn BCU stuff? I just made
: my first GP two months ago and find that I no longer experince problems
: with my right RSI prone wrist. I was planning on following Woody's example
: and go for the BCU 3 star. I had planned to learn the skills and go thru
: the exam with the GP. Should I go back to my euro paddle to learn and
: practice BCU stuff?: Thanks,
: Nelson
