: The only reasons anyone has ever given me for feathering in whitewater are: I
: just learned that way, I dunno.: Everyone else was.
: For punching through giant waves. ?????
: Where one is continually changing direction on whitewater, feathering for
: wind makes no sense. Shallow angles of feather don't help there anyway.: Bracing, back sweeps, rolling, high sculling and sculling back up are all
: impeded by a feathered paddle.: I use an unfeathered paddle in whitewater and find it works just fine.
: Why does anyone use a feathered paddle in white water?
: What are any advantages over an unfeathered paddle? Other than that is the

: Why 90 to 70 to 60 to 45 to 30 to whatever is next? The progression seems
: apparent.: Randy
In all honesty, I would prefer and unfeathered ww paddle. But, the reality is that I got to many dam boats at this moment and too many paddles already. I just can justify in my own mind spending $300-$400 for a custom order paddle since I don't see many non feathered paddles on sale -- new or used. And, as I said above, it seems feathered paddle usage is incorporated in my body memory already -- at least with white water -- that I just don't see the pressing need (or handicap). To get one just to have one would would be (in my mind) akin to doing it for "dogma" more than anything else, something I'm don't particularly feel about this sport just yet.
