One reason

Whitewater slalom.
Feathered blades give you an extra inch or two of clearance in the gates.
And you just know that everyone on the river is also a slalom racer. Right? Guys? You with me?
(Actually, slalom is a lot of fun and a great challenge..but not many people do it).
The #1 reason in WW: There is no current reason, but old habits die hard.
Shawn
: The only reasons anyone has ever given me for feathering in whitewater are: I
: just learned that way, I dunno.: Everyone else was.
: For punching through giant waves. ?????
: Where one is continually changing direction on whitewater, feathering for
: wind makes no sense. Shallow angles of feather don't help there anyway.: Bracing, back sweeps, rolling, high sculling and sculling back up are all
: impeded by a feathered paddle.: I use an unfeathered paddle in whitewater and find it works just fine.
: Why does anyone use a feathered paddle in white water?
: What are any advantages over an unfeathered paddle? Other than that is the
: way you learned, it seems natural now and you don't want to change.
: Why 90 to 70 to 60 to 45 to 30 to whatever is next? The progression seems
: apparent.: Randy
