: Why would anyone choose one way or the other and use either one all the time?
: Use the one that is appropriate for the conditions!
: Head wind = feathered.
: Most any other condition = unfeathered.: Randy
I paddled unfeathered (GP) in a seakayak. Going into white water this year, I was concerned about confusion over blade orientation since WW paddles are feathered, although as some one pointed out less do than touring paddles. I think I may have experienced some initial confusion but nothing that was long term. I haven't experience any major problems bracing or rolling -- either side -- in either a white water boat or a sea kayak, provided I "play" a little with the paddle before really getting on with the agenda. The only move that seems to take some thought is reverse sweep (stern to bow) on the offside in a white water boat. I have to take a second or tow to orient for that one.
Having said that, I prefer unfeathered. I would mind picking up a 30 degree white water paddle, if I can find the right size used.
