Check shaft oval!!

I cut down one of my Werners but took it all from one side. I didn't watch closely enough and got into the oval part of the shaft. I had to file/ovalize my insert half and lost the ability to feather for that paddle.
I find a short paddle with a big blade to be easiest on my shoulders with their old injuries. Pulling harder with fewer strokes is easier on my shoulders than higher cadence but lifting the paddle many more times a day.
Does the same efficiency rule hold for wing paddles? Shorter/hand closer to the blade is physically more efficient?
