Amazing, isn't it? As a point of reference, surf ski and flatwater racers use 216-220cm for sprints, and 212-216 for distance. We (or rather, they, since I have stopped racing) figure that we can use such long paddles- no kidding, racers think these are long lengths- because of their tremendous strength.One renowned expedition paddler, Chris Duff(who is quite tall) uses a 210cm.
Think of paddle length as a single speed bike- long paddle, big gear, shorter paddle, more revs, easier gear. A big gear is great if one is cycling in Iowa, but if you peddle hilly country, it sucks. And there are hills in kayaking...
