...most Euro blades are not flat. A blade with a dihedral face and a hollow back is not going to produce lift well under water. It will be worse than a flat blade. They really only work when skimming on the surface. A GP blade, in contrast, works best below the surface. This is why sculling technique with a Euro paddle emphasizes short, rapid, slashing strokes at the surface and GP technique uses long, slow, smooth strokes underwater. Sculling with a Euro paddle is work; with a GP, it's relaxing. Try a GP sometime and the difference will amaze you. I'm not saying that you'll become an instant convert, but it will help you to understand what all the fuss is about.
