I don't want to turn this into to a "risto pile on". However, I share in his crime (I just tend to keep my opinion to myself since I know better than to instult someones boat). I've always turned my nose up at the Prion boats. They just didn't look right to me. I can't explain it. Part of it is I've only seen them in plastic. And they seem a bit boxey. But I won't pretend to have any reason to be hard on Prijon, it was just a gut feel (ie. an unfounded prejudice).
Then I spent a day in a seayak and I have to say, I was quite impressed. The boat handled nicely, had fine secondary stability and while I couldn't see winning any races in the boat, it was plenty fast. There was a bit more weather cocking than I like, but nothing I couldn't deal with. Overall, I finished the day with a whole new appreciation for Prijon kayaks in general and the SeaYak in particular. It reeally is a truely fine all around sea kayak.
So here's to Prion and the fine boats they make. Just as you can't judge a book by its cover, you can't judge a kayak by its looks. Only the butt knows for sure.
