Dave,

I sympathize with the novices in that kind of chop being terrifyed. I think whats so blastedly unerving is that in a situation like that which for a beginner can be overwhwelming, is the lack of an exit to the situation even mentally for a moment to collect, calm down , re-asess and prepare. Its just there, and surprisingly suddenly overwhelming and all encompassing.

That said, its AMAZING how those situations begin to shrink in fear when the skills and experience fatten up. It was neat to see how well a light "pat" of a low brace stopped what i thought was iminent capsize on a few occasions.
