: Do ANY of the submersible radios have submersible AA battery packs?
Not that I'm aware of. Every one I've looked at is only submersible with the rechargeble battery pack installed.
: I've had
: too many bad experiences with rechargable batteries (in scientific field
: instruments) to trust them on a long kayak trip.I've never had any problems with NiMH or lithium ion batteries. I use NiMH rechargeables in my headlamps, cameras, GPS and PDA. FWIW, I use a Maha intelligent charger with Maha and Kodak batteries, which have (or at least had) the highest energy density of the available battery brands. The only downside to them is that they lose energy in storage, so they're best for devices that are used frequently. If I need long-term backup batteries, I use alkalines or lithiums, since they're stable in storage.
