Goals are Basic Paddling, what we call flatwater basic certification here. Also training in basics of navigation, weather, clothing and packing the boat.

Immersion gear: I have requested mandatory immersion gear: have not yet seen it appear. A critical problem. Because of the size of the harbor and proximity to help, anything other than mild hypothermia would be exceedingly rare, and this condition begins in late April and continues only about 5 weeks. So the cost benefit of purchase of wet suits for up to 40 people of different sizes, plus cleaning and storing them probably figures in the school's decision not to upgrade to immersion gear. Most of the season the water is almost bathtub warm (by CDN standards LOL).

: What is the focus or goals of this particular class? Are these conditions
: normal/anticipated? Why is immersion gear not worn?
