I had the same thing happen to me, woke up one morning and it felt like my hand had been broken, no brusing, just a slight swelling. The Doc said he thinks it's rheumatism, the fun of getting older;) I keep paddling and it seems to be getting better. Have it checked out to be safe, it could also be repetitive use stress.
